This class is an introduction to acting for the stage. We will cover the basics of voice, movement, stage directions and scene presentation. Students will participate in group scenes and exercises to help them develop the skills needed to perform stories, using scripts and improvisation techniques. Special guest instructors may be invited to work with the class.

2nd Semester

For students who are not part of the Spring Drama Production cast, this class will focus on small scene acting, short skits and also help out with background work for the Spring Play.

This class will provide you with an opportunity to learn about the elements of design, art history and drawing, painting and sculpting techniques.

This class will enable students to become more proficient in using the computer for project related
work. With computers being used more and more frequently in Junior High, in High Schools and in the workplace, a solid base of computer skills is
essential. Instruction will be given in using MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Publisher to create documents and projects that stand out.

Students learn to make wise food choices and to understand recipes, equipment, care in handling food, and the importance of safe and efficient work habits. Students develop and understanding of basic ingredients, by combining them in a variety of ways to make various foods.
2nd Semester
Mr. Graffunder
Eating is fun. Cooking is enjoyable. Tasting what you have cooked and selling it for a profit that can be donated to charity is priceless. Students taking Foods 2 must have previously taken Foods 1. Building on skills learned in Foods 1, students will expand their repertoire of culinary skills and will attempt a variety of cooking styles.
2nd Semester
Mrs. Duimel
We all know that computers can be used to type, surf the web, play games and listen to music. Most students could probably teach adults how to do many of these things. Computers are capable of doing so much more. In this class, students will learn about digital photography – how cameras work and how to take good pictures. Once the pictures have been taken they will be able to create different effects using a variety of software. An example may be to remove all the color from a picture, but the leave the red. Images can be used for designing posters or images can be created for dynamic web pages.
Handicrafts / Puppets
1st Semester
Mrs. Hedley
Using a variety of donated and purchased materials, we will make basic handicraft projects. Some possibilities are simple quilting, crochet, knitting, weaving and embroidery, with other crafts to be considered. The projects to be undertaken will be decided upon by the class.
1st or 2nd Semester

This option will challenge students to develop different skills in the area of leadership. Students will learn about leadership styles and effective ways to lead and then put it in to practice. They will have the opportunity to provide leadership by organizing chapels, school spirit days, sports assemblies, junior high ski day, and any other great ideas or events that they can dream up.
Media Studies
1st Semester

Media Studies uses a wide range of media, including television, film, video games, newspapers, advertising and popular music to examine topics such as stereotyping, violence, privacy, marketing to children, the portrayal of diversity in the media, and online hate. Students need to be prepared to listen to music and watch movies for homework in order to be able to participate in the class discussions.
Movie Making (class size - 12) (Double Class)
1st Semester

This is a double class that will focus on making a feature film. Students will take on the roles of film crew, cast and production team, under the direction of the instructor. Scenes will be filmed over the course of Term One to produce an original movie to release for public viewing. Screenplay details TBA.
Musical Theatre (class size - 20)
1st Semester

Students will focus on rehearsing numbers from well-known Broadway musicals for the stage.
(Please note: This is NOT a pop song performance class) Group and individual numbers will be coached and rehearsed for an end-of-term Musical Theatre Showcase Performance. Students who enjoy singing, dancing and active participation should take this class
Orienteering / Geography (Double Class)
1st Semester

Do you get lost easily? Or maybe one of your parents is horrible with directions. Do you love camping and being out in the wilderness exploring? Either way, if you can relate to either of these scenarios then Orienteering may be the option class for you. Student will learn map skills, how to use a compass and GPS. They will complete challenges that involve creating maps, following maps and locating “hidden treasure.”
Outdoor Education (Double Class)
1st Semester

This course will be designed to give students a broader range of physically active experiences outside the gymnasium, such as sailing, kayaking, snorkelling and backpacking. A variety of sports and leisure activities will be explored throughout the semester. This option will encourage students to live an active life and will give them exposure to activities in which they might not ordinarily participate.
Note: There will be a mandatory fee to participate in this option of $125.
Praise Band 1
1st or 2nd Semester
Mrs. McEwan
This course will give students an introduction to contemporary instrumental praise music. Students will have an opportunity to develop basic techniques on either: drum set/percussion, electric bass guitar, guitar, piano/keyboard. Depending on interest, woodwind and brass instruction may be offered. Students will gain an understanding in music structure, ensemble playing and most importantly, worshipping the Lord with instruments and voice.
Praise Band 2
1st or 2nd Semester
Mrs. McEwan
This course builds upon the skills learned in Praise Band 1. In this option, students will lead worship in Chapel on a regular basis, and will develop the skills and techniques in leading worship effectively. The course will culminate with a trip to other schools to lead worship with other schools. In order to qualify for this class, you must have previous music experience.
Recreational Activities( Double Class)
2nd Semester

The Recreational Activities option will include recreational activities such as tennis, wall climbing, swimming, racquetball, squash, golf, bowling, etc…
Note: There will be a mandatory fee to participate in this option of $125.
Song Writing and
Recording
2nd Semester
Mrs. Loeppky
For students with a musical background who are interested in writing their own songs. Coaching will be given on song writing process and original song demos can be recorded to keep or publish.

Sports Medicine
2nd Semester
Mr. Jonker
The sports medicine option will cover a broad area of information in respect to the anatomy and physiology of the human body. Students will gain a better understanding of the human body and how to assess, prevent and treat injuries. They will also be exposed to career opportunities in the growing field of sports medicine with a possibility of becoming First-Aid certified. This is an excellent course for any athlete, especially athletes who wish to continue playing sports in high school and beyond.
