Mrs. Kathy Roe
Family School Liaison Counsellor
A little bit about me and the FSLC program…..
Hello my name is Kathy Roe and this is my eighth year as a Family School Liaison Counsellor for the Palliser School Division.
I have a Masters Degree in Counselling and have worked at several schools, and in private practice. I have been married for 46 years and my husband and I have six, adult children.
I am very grateful for the experience I have had, for the last seven years of working with the warm, kind students, families and staff here at TCS.
In my work as a school counsellor, I have worked, one on one with students, supporting them with concerns ranging from self awareness, emotional regulation, self care, social skills, sadness, anxiety, worries regarding anything from friends to family to school and anything else that may be on their minds.
In my counselling office I try to provide a calm, quiet environment where students can share their concerns, hopes, dreams and hurts. We do art work, play games, talk and work on understanding what is going on. We also work on strategies for change.
I am here every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. If a student, family or teacher feels a student might benefit from seeing me they can email me directly, contact the teacher, call or ask the front desk to contact me. Students may drop in to see me a few times and if we determine that we want to work on specific goals, I meet with the parents virtually, on the phone or in person for an Intake meeting.
During the meeting with the students, goals are developed and we schedule regular meetings to work on strategies to achieve the desired change, new perspective or goals.
The faith perspective offered here at TCS, provides a secure awareness of the love and protection of God as we work through life's ups and downs.
How Services are accessed. . .
Counselling is accessed on referral basis. Teachers, principals, and parents may refer a child about whom they have concerns, and must give their permission for services before they commence, at which point an intake appointment will be scheduled. Referral forms will be emailed to teachers or parents as requested. At times, a student may seek me out personally, in which case, I am able to meet with a child a few times before a referral by a teacher is given and an intake appointment and parental consent is provided. Feel free to call or email with any questions.
