Pysanky - Ukrainian Easter Eggs
In preparation for Easter, our grade 3 students in Mrs. Groeneveld's class participated in an old tradition of making colourful eggs. The process included decorating eggs with traditional Ukrainian folk designs using a wax-resist (batik) method. The word pysanka comes from the verb pysaty, "to write", as the designs are not painted on, but written with beeswax. They turned out to be very beautiful.
