Points of Sail

We had a very full day. "Points of sail" was a theme from today. The students had a lesson on all of the points of sail and we had an awesome afternoon of sailing with most of the sails set.  The winds were terrific and we were sailing around 8 knots for quite awhile. Whales and sea lions were seen today by some of us. I am the only one taking pictures with my phone so the pictures are limited to being taken on the Swift during the day. All pictures of a boat in the distance are the Grace. Our pictures for singing and games in the hold are all taken on the Grace once we have rafted the Swift to the Grace. We also ventured out in the dories  rowing to Pender Island for a giant game of Capture the Flag and some time exploring the beach. Another highlight was setting a prawn trap that we will pick up later this week.  We are looking forward to yummy, fresh prawns soon. The food has been wonderful. Freshly baked banana chocolate chip muffins, Cream of Wheat and oranges for breakfast. Greek salad and freshly baked pitas  with hummus and tzatziki sauce for lunch. Then, we had make your own burritos and salad for dinner. Everyone is still doing great. There is no sea sickness at all. We are all just a little tired with all of the fresh air, tiring work of hauling the lines and setting the sails, but also so refreshed to be hard at work all in God's creation. Last night the stars were in their full glory during most of the night watch hours. Tonight it is overcast and windy so no stars visible yet. We had about 1 1/2 hours of rain for the final leg of our sailing trip before we rafted to the Grace. We were all a little soggy, but happy. The boats are now all quiet as we all head into a deep sleep, except for the two per boat on night watch right now.  We are all eagerly anticipating the adventures of tomorrow. The students will spend some time studying for their Jr Sailing test on Thursday and will start to complete the hands on part of the test by showing their watch captain how to tie knots, what to do when we have a man overboard, etc. Please pray for good rest, open minds to absorb all they are learning, for times alone with God, and for special memories with their classmates. There already are so many stories and pictures to share once we return home. Blessings from the Grace and Swift.
